Tim

A very warm welcome to you, from Tim and the team at Sol Scuba!

In 2007, Tim was the owner of a successful UK manufacturing company. Tim finally decided it was time to live the dream! He sold up and swapped his business suit for a wetsuit and has never looked back! With more time to devote to his passion, the scuba diving bug strengthened its grip and he went from PADI Open Water Diver to PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, Emergency First Response Instructor and RYA powerboat license holder in little over two years! Tim has worked in various capacities for several different dive centres on the island, and has to date logged over 1000 dives in Tenerife.

A chance meeting with Jacques Cousteau in Cannes over twenty years ago on board his vessel “RV Calypso”, combined with a deep rooted family history of seafarers, inspired Tim to further develop his education within the PADI system and motivated him enough to warrant a complete career change.

The dream of owning his own dive facility began to materialise and came to fruition when Tim discovered an abandoned property that would make for the perfect scuba diving and snorkelling centre. The premises were full of potential, particularly due to the facilities that service the centre and the fantastic location that would provide easily accessible diving.

In order to maximise a new business in difficult economic climes, the centre needed to open in time for the summer season. A punishing schedule was to follow, the property was completely renovated and refurbished, Tim bought brand new kit and equipment that was even especially shipped in from Madrid. Right on schedule on the 1st June 2009, Sol Scuba was born and the opening party for local people, businesses and acquaintances, was a celebration and a chance for Tim to reflect upon what he had achieved. Tim created Sol Scuba in a very short space of time and the result has clearly been worth the hard work that has gone into turning this former empty shell into a profitable and thriving business.

Tim’s connection to the ocean is clearly illustrated in the dive centre, with photographs of his great, great grandfather, “Weasel” the famous Whitstable diver, proudly on display. Sol Scuba is a family affair, involving Tim’s father, Tim’s wife and Tim’s daughter! Tim’s daughter is now following in her father’s footsteps, logging over 40 dives, not bad for a 12-year-old! Obviously in this case, scuba diving definitely runs in the blood!

Sol Scuba has already introduced hundreds of people to scuba diving and snorkelling in Tenerife, people from all over the world, from all walks of life and divers of every age and ability. Sol Scuba has a 100% safety record, is a fully legal and insured business and all the kit and equipment is brand new and maintained to the highest possible standards. Sol Scuba is also very involved with the local community, local schools and charities, and most recently was chosen to take part in a film, promoting scuba diving for tourism in Tenerife. Sol Scuba is passionate about Project Aware and is currently working on a project to turn a local dive site into a marine conservation area.

Sol Scuba can’t wait to meet you!
